Explosive details of text messages and telephone conversations between the two defendants in the Suzanne Tamim murder case have been published. The transcripts, obtained by Egyptian newspaper Al Ahram from a source at a telecoms company, contain damming evidence that the two men conspired to kill the Lebanese singer in Dubai.
Egyptian tycoon Hesham Talaat Moustafa, a member of parliament for the ruling National Democratic Party in Egypt, is charged with paying former policeman, Muhsen el-Sukkari, $2 million to stab Tamim to death at her Jumeirah Beach Residence apartment on July 28.
The transcripts show that the pair had several telephone conversations and exchanged text messages in the weeks leading up to Tamim’s murder. In one of the phone calls, made in May, el-Sukkari tells Moustafa that he has Tamim under surveillance in London and that two other men are watching her in Dubai.
“If they can, then let them do it,” Moustafa tells him.
“The best way is to throw her from a balcony just like what happened to Ashraf Marwan,” he added. Ashraf Marwan is an Egyptian businessman who was murdered in London in 2007 by being thrown from his balcony.
A text message sent later from el-Sukkari to Moustafa said: “To be safe, call me from different numbers. There is good news - the issue is nearly resolved.” In another message el-Sukkari appears to remind his alleged employer about his fee: “Boss, please don’t forget to send me the money,” it read.
Other calls have el-Sukkari and Moustafa discussing Tamim and how she had surprised them by moving to Dubai with her Iraqi Boxing champion boyfriend Riyadh Al-Azawi. The pair’s trial is ongoing in Egypt after both pleaded not guilty to murder and incitement charges at the first hearing on October 18. Court proceedings are due to resume next Saturday.
The prosecution claims that Moustafa’s motive for ordering the star’s slaughter was revenge - he is widely reported to have been a former lover of Tamim. The prosecution also contends that el-Sukkari killed Tamim, 30, after tricking her into opening the door of her luxury apartment by posing as a representative of the building owners. She was stabbed several times and her throat was cut.

Footballer Is Guilty
An Emirati footballer has been sentenced to three years in jail for kidnapping a woman and locking her up in his flat. Salah Abbas, a 26-year-old footballer for a leading team in the Etisalat league, and his compatriot, were found guilty of kidnapping the 21-year-old Iraqi woman yesterday. The court heard that in August last year, the victim was with her female friends at a petrol station in Rashidiya and was invited to a party by the star. After she refused, Abbas forced her into his car and took her to his villa, where he threatened to burn her. After she escaped, police were called and they took Abbas into custody. Abbas is already on bail pending appeal in a separate case after being sentenced to three years for firing a gun at a man and forcing him to kiss the foot of his friend.

Dubai: A New Zealand woman will spend six months in jail for sexually molesting a policewoman when she was under the influence of liquor, ruled a court.
The Dubai Court of First Instance found the 41-year-old female, L.T., guilty of hugging and kissing the policewoman and touching her private body parts besides drinking alcohol, as charged by the Public Prosecution.
Presiding Judge Saeed Salem Bin Sarm also said she will be deported after serving her punishment, which is still subject to appeal within 15 days.
When she first appeared in court, the woman, who is a housewife denied that she kissed, hugged or indecently touched the policewoman. She pleaded not guilty to molestation and admitted drinking alcohol.
Public Prosecution records said the policewoman went with a police patrol to a five-star hotel in Jumeirah after Dubai Police's operation room received an emergency tip that the accused was causing trouble to hotelgoers.
The policewoman testified during the Public Prosecution questioning that when she took the accused for blood and urine test to examine the amount of alcohol she had consumed, 'she molested me'.

Manager jailed and fined Dh6.4m in 'historic verdict'
Published: October 15, 2008, 23:32
Dubai: A company manager has been jailed and fined Dh6.45 million for employing 94 workers illegally, marking what a senior naturalisation and residency prosecutor described as "historic and unprecedented verdict".
The Dubai Naturalisation and Residency Court of First Instance sentenced the 52-year-old Indian manager, P.M., to two months in jail and fined him Dh5 million for hiring 65 people who entered the country illegally. The court slapped additional fine of Dh1.45 million for employing 29 people who were sponsored by others.
The accused, who managed an electro-mechanical company, will also be deported after completing his sentence. The verdict is still subject to appeal.
Ali Humaid Bin Khatim, head of Naturalisation and Residency Prosecution, described the ruling as remarkable and the first of its kind in the country's history "in terms of the fine's heftiness and number of workers who were hired illegally".
"The incident happened last August when the workers complained to the Labour Ministry against P.M., accusing him of not paying their salaries. The authorities' investigations revealed that company manager hired the workers illegally... we detained the 94 workers and the manager as well before they were referred to the Naturalisation and Residency Court," said Bin Khatim.
The head of Dubai's Naturalisation and Residency Prosecution told a press conference yesterday that nine suspects were charged with working on a visit visa and failing to pay their fines for overstaying in the country, 19 suspects were charged with working for different sponsors and 65 suspects were charged with entering the country illegally.
The court awarded the 94 illegal workers (one Sri Lankan, 23 Indians and 70 Bangladeshis) different jail terms (between three and six months) and different fines (between Dh3,000 to Dh4,000). All of them will be deported after serving their sentence.
The Labour Ministry's Undersecretary Humaid Bin Dimas, who attended the hearing, said: "Since His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, described those who hire illegal workers as 'traitors' in April 2007... our cooperation with the Naturalisation and Residency Prosecution, Dubai Naturalisation and Residency Department and Dubai Police became productive and fruitful. Our cooperation has developed and the punishments have been stiffened because we seek to reach a market free of illegal workers, who represent a menace to our society."
Etihad flight diverted after bomb note found

Abu Dhabi: A bomb threat note found on-board caused Etihad flight EY231 from Abu Dhabi to Islamabad to be diverted to Karachi on Wednesday.
The note was found in one of the aircraft's toilets.
"According to the information we have received, a passenger went into the toilet and found a note and started shouting that there was a bomb on-board," a Pakistan civil aviation official said.
The aircraft, an Airbus A330, had 193 passengers and 14 cabin crew on-board. It landed safely in Karachi at 14.13pm local time.
Local airport authorities helped the passengers and crew to disembark the aircraft safely.
According to an Etihad Airways memo, the Pakistani police force did a thorough search of the aircraft after it had landed. It was cleared for departure shortly thereafter.
The passengers were expected to fly to their original destination, Islamabad, later on Wednesday evening.
"The safety of our customers is of paramount importance and the pilot's thorough training led to his correct decision to divert the aircraft to Karachi, and thankfully the note was found to be a hoax after the authorities searched the plane thoroughly.
"We apologise to our customers for the inconvenience caused and we thank them for their patience, calmness and understanding," Iain Burns, a spokesman for Etihad, said.
According to reports, the passengers were searched as they disembarked and a bomb disposal team inspected the aircraft. No explosives were found.

Small private plane crashes in Nepal, 18 dead (Reuters)
KATHMANDU - A small private plane crashed in the remote mountains of northeast Nepal on Wednesday, killing at least 18 people, airline and airport officials told Reuters.
Twelve Germans and two other foreign nationals were among the dead. "There were 19 people on board," said Vinay Shakya, an official of Yeti Airlines, a domestic airline.
A crew member survived.
The aircraft, a Twin Otter carrying 16 passengers and three crew, crashed shortly before it was due to land at Lukla, known as the gateway to Mount Everest, about 125 km (80 miles) northeast of the capital Kathmandu.
The remote airport at Lukla was built in the 1960s by mountaineer Sir Edmund Hillary to facilitate expeditions to the world's tallest peak.
Airport official Mahesh Basnet told Reuters the plane might have hit a mountain top as it was coming in to land.
About a dozen private airlines operate in Nepal. Many fly to remote areas that have no roads, mostly carrying foreign tourists to the Himalayan foothills, including Mount Everest. God bless them. I darent to take the aircraft tour of Himalaya range when I was in Nepal.

UAE footballer detained for using witchcraft
Khaleel, who has now been released without charge, wanted the witches to use their sorcery to get him included in the starting 11 and to bring bad luck to other members of the team, according to newspaper reports in Saudi Arabia.
Police sources confirmed that the two Omanis had been deported after confessing to conning people and using sorcery.
A close friend of Khaleel’s said that the player went to see the witches so they could tell him what his future held. “There is nothing abnormal in that,” the friend said. We’ve nowhere to go
Wednesday 24 Sep, 2008
Ten families living in a villa at Hamriya Park in Deira have been forced to live in baking-hot conditions for the past week after their electricity was cut off following threats of eviction.
Faisal Ahmed, who lives in the villa with his wife and three children, claimed the water and power were disconnected without any notice.
“My home was in the dark when I returned home from the office one day. I contacted the Municipality who said that it would never be restored as the villa is being shared by multiple families,” said Ahmed, who works as an accountant and pays dhs4,000 for a room in the dilapidated villa.
“Since then it has been a struggle to lead a normal life. My landlord tried to provide a generator, but it was removed after neighbours complained of the noise.
“We are using a small pipe to siphon water from a nearby tank as the taps don’t work.
“The children have stopped going to school because of the problem, I would have appreciated it if the Municipality had taken up this issue after Ramadan,” he added.
Ahmed said he had hunted for alternative accommodation but could not find anything that he could afford.
“I really have no choice but to stay here,” he said.
“There is no where else for us to go.”
All ten families in the villa have been told to get out by the Municipality as part of its crackdown on villa sharing.
It announced earlier this week that anyone sharing a villa, who was not a family, had 30 days to vacate their home.
Shah Ul Hameed also shares the villa in Deira.
He has a ten-day-old daughter who has been suffering horribly since the loss of power.
“My daughter developed skin rashes as it is too hot to stay in the house. I often go to the rooftop carrying her in my arms but she never stops crying. We now sleep in the open under the sky,” he said.
A spokesperson at the Municipality said the deadline for villa evictions would not be extended.
“A notification has been published in the newspapers in this regard. People have to vacate within a month,” he said.

SHARJAH - A suicide attempt by an 18-year-old Indian girl was foiled yesterday after timely intervention by Sharjah Police and Civil Defence personnel who managed to pull the girl back to safety from the balcony of a 13th floor apartment near Concord Cinema. Eye-witnesses said the drama started around 5pm when the girl was noticed standing in the balcony.
'She stood on the narrow balcony and her family members were shouting and crying in an attempt to persuade her not to jump off,' said Ashraf, an eyewitness.
'A large crowd gathered on the ground and people were seen making efforts to save the girl in case she jumped.
Police and Civil Defence personnel rushed to the scene and engaged her in a conversation,' the eye-witness said. 'While police personnel on the ground were talking to the girl, some CID officers entered the apartment. They distracted the girl and suddenly pulled her to safety,' he added.

Face on bamboo shoot stumps cook
Mohd Asri Hamid of Sungai Burung, Balik Pulau, found the “face” when he was about to make a special spicy bamboo shoot dish for his customers on Tuesday night.
The shoot was one of two he had bought from a villager in Sungai Burung on Monday evening. “I did not notice anything special about the shoot when I took it home. In fact, I cut one of the shoots that night but as I was about to do the same to the second one, something stopped me from doing it,” he said.

Mohd Asri said he was amazed to discover the human face. ”It has a face, two eyes - one open and the other closed - a nose and the shape of a mouth.”
Mohd Asri said he also heard “weird noises” of children playing and crying near his house on Monday night although his wife and three children were away in Yan, Kedah.
He said his aunt who lives next door also heard the same things.
Mohd Asri has now decided to keep the bamboo shoot. Link: http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2008/6/5/nation/21450633&sec=nation

Pilots run out of fuel, pray, land near Jesus sign
WELLINGTON, New Zealand - It seemed like an almost literal answer to their prayers. When two New Zealand pilots ran out of fuel in a microlight airplane they offered prayers and were able to make an emergency landing in a field — coming to rest right next to a sign reading, "Jesus is Lord."
Grant Stubbs and Owen Wilson, both from the town of Blenheim on the country's South Island, were flying up the sloping valley of Pelorus Sound when the engine spluttered, coughed and died.
"My friend and I are both Christians so our immediate reaction in a life-threatening situation was to ask for God's help," Stubbs told The Associated Press on Wednesday.
He said he prayed during the ill-fated flight Sunday that the tiny craft would get over the top of a ridge and that they would find a landing site that was not too steep — or in the nearby sea.
Wilson said that the pair would have been in deep trouble if the fuel had run out five minutes earlier.
"If it had to run out, that was the place to be," he said. "There was an instantaneous answer to prayer as we crossed the ridge and there was an airfield — I didn't know it existed till then."
After Wilson glided the powerless craft to a landing on the grassy strip, the pair noticed they were beside a 20-foot-tall sign that read, "Jesus is Lord — The Bible."
"When we saw that, we started laughing," Stubbs said.
Nearby residents provided them with gas to fly the home-built plane back to base.

Victims of juvenile crime cannot claim damages
Published: May 23, 2008, 00:19
Dubai: A court has issued a landmark ruling which bars victims of juvenile crime from claiming civil compensation before a juvenile court.
The Dubai Court of Appeal which issued the landmark ruling said a juvenile court is a special court which prosecutes juveniles and not their custodians. The Dubai Court of Appeal recently turned down a civil compensation claim filed by the custodians of a 16-year-old French boy who was kidnapped and forced to have sex by two Emirati adults and a teenager.
Threatened
The two adults and 17-year-old teenager, E.D., drove to a desert area where they threatened and assaulted the French schoolboy before having sex with him against his will. The Dubai Court of Cassation confirmed a 15-year prison term against the adult offenders. Meanwhile E.D. is serving a three-year prison term.
The French boy's custodian lodged a civil lawsuit against E.D. claiming Dh20,200 in temporary compensation before the Dubai Juvenile Court which dismissed the lawsuit.
The Appeal Court issued its landmark ruling in which it rejected the victim's claim for civil compensation.
The landmark ruling said that any victim who sustains damage caused by a juvenile does not have the right to lodge a civil lawsuit and claim compensation from the minor's custodian in a juvenile court.
"According to Federal Law no 9 of 1976, the Juvenile Court was formed to look into cases of juvenile delinquency in secret hearings and no one is allowed to attend the proceedings without the judge's permission.
"The juvenile court looks into the youngsters' benefits and interests and supplies them with all precautionary methods which develop them socially and helps them integrate into society. The above law made it precise that the juvenile court handles teenage cases... A victim has the right to claim civil compensation for any accrued damages but not against juveniles who are being prosecuted in juvenile courts," said the landmark ruling.

Ras Al Khaimah: An Emirati who knocked down and killed two Indian schoolgirls while speeding has been jailed for six months.
He was also ordered by the Traffic Court to pay Dh100,000 in blood money to each of the victims' families and fined Dh5,000.
Five-year-old Sasinas Jayadas and 14-year-old schoolgirl, Joji Mathew Kuruvilla sustained serious injuries when they were hit by A.A.'s speeding car on February 14 on Shamal Al Rams Street.
The older schoolgirl had been helping the five-year-old cross the road when the accident happened.
The two girls were taken to Saqr Hospital, they were admitted to intensive care but later died of their injuries.
Helping hand
Their bodies were flown to the Indian state of Kerala for burial.
Sasinas, a kindergarten student at the Indian School, was on her way back home in the school bus.
The bus stopped opposite her house and the bus's caretaker asked one of the students aboard to help the little girl across Shamal Al Rams Street.
Fourteen-year-old Joji (a Grade IX student) volunteered.
Sasinas's mother was waiting for her daughter on the opposite side of the street and was unable to cross the road since she was carrying her 11-month-old baby girl in her arms.
Sasinas went a little bit ahead of Joji to cross the street from in front of the bus.
The little girl did not see A.A.'s speeding car, but Joji did and rushed to pull the little girl out of the way, but not in time and the car hit both girls.
Sasinas's mother, Minijayadas, who witnessed the accident, fainted. Since then she has been so distraught that she has been unable to look after her infant.

Husband charged with threatening to publish wife's nude pictures
By Bassam Za'za', Senior Reporter
Published: May 19, 2008, 18:49
Dubai: A husband who dishonoured his wife by e-mailing nude pictures of her to her family - and threatened to upload them on a dedicated pornographic website failed to appear in court on Monday.
Records said the 35-year-old Jordanian husband maligned and belittled his 27-year-old Gulf national wife when he e-mailed her father and sister saying that ‘I kissed and committed adultery with her before we married'.
He also forwarded his father-in-law and sister-in-law two pictures of his wife in a nightgown and swimsuit and threatened to distribute her naked pictures among her relatives and friends and do the same thing among her father's, who is an academic, his friends and workmates.
A judge at the Dubai Court of First Instance will give the verdict next week after the suspect, a manger, failed to attend Monday's hearing although his lawyer submitted a written apology for his client's absence.
The Public Prosecution charged the suspect with degrading his wife and threatening to scandalise her over the internet by sending two e-mails to her father and sister including in them the nude pictures which he threatened to distribute.
"He sent my father and sister e-mails in which he threatened to publish nude pictures of me in a sex magazine… he also threatened to publish them among friends and relatives.
The suspect also sent text messages to my father's and sister's mobile phones saying that he will promote the naked pictures if I didn't stop calling his family," alleged the claimant in her statement.
The girl's father confirmed his daughter's statement and testified: "He threatened to design a special pornographic website on which to upload my daughter's pictures."
The sister claimed that the suspect said he would use his computer skills to publish the claimant's photos.
A verdict will be heard soon.
Two women charged with indecent behaviour at public beach
Dubai: Two women on Tuesday stood trial for kissing and cuddling at a public beach.
The women, a 30-year-old Lebanese visitor and 36-year-old Bulgarian employee, pleaded not guilty to kissing, cuddling and sleeping ‘like married couples' before the Dubai Court of Misdemeanors.
The Public Prosecution charged the women with kissing, groping each other and indecently gesturing in public.
The women, who are currently on bail, denied the charges during Tuesday's hearing.
Initial interrogations revealed that the women were spotted being intimate together on a public beach between Sharjah and Dubai. Witnesses claimed that they saw the Lebanese woman sleeping over the Bulgarian and the two were cuddling.
The suspects were arrested by Sharjah police who later referred them to Dubai's Public Prosecution because the incident fell beyond its jurisdiction.
The judge adjourned the case for a ruling.
A judicial source confirmed to Gulf News that this is believed to be the first case of its kind in the country.

Shining stars
Jessica Alba paired glittery golden earrings with her purple gown for a dramatic look. I personally would have chosen white diamonds to create a softer look against the purple.
When someone is pregnant on the red carpet they always glow in a special way, no matter what they wear.
One of the prettiest girls in Hollywood. Red is a daring colour to wear, but with her beautiful light complexion and dark hair, her pear-shape diamond earrings worked perfectly.
A diamond-collar necklace could be very exciting to wear. If the necklace sits perfectly well, it could look divine. Garner pulled it off beautifully, though I would have used only one diamond bracelet.
Her sleek gown was paired with jewels that were not too over the top, creating a long sinuous effect, which she personally likes. It worked very well on her.
