Ruby Lin to star in Princess Pearl remake

Still remember the popular Taiwanese costume drama Princess Pearl which took the Asian region by storm more than a decade ago?

A 30-episode remake is now on the way. Details remain sketchy, but already the Internet is abuzz, with fans speculating who will fill the shoes of Vicky Zhao Wei and Ruby Lin as the princesses in the latest TV adaptation of Chiung Yao’s popular romance novel.

One thing is for sure: Lin, who played the sweet and gentle Zi Wei in the first and second seasons of the original show, has joined the cast.

She was not reprising her role. Instead, Lin is playing Xia Yu He, the beautiful mother of Zi Wei, who once had a bittersweet relationship with the emperor and ended up having her heart broken, when he left her to go back to the capital.

The 34-year-old actress said she agreed to accept the role out of her gratitude towards Qiung Yao.

Aired in 1998, the series soon became an hit, spawning off the second season and the third, turning Zhao, Lin as well as Fan Bingbing into household names.

However, the cast underwent a reshuffle when all major members except Zhou Jie dropped out of the project, with Chinese actresses Huang Yi and Ma Yili being groomed as the new princesses.

Hayden Panettiere looked the cat's whiskers as she paraded around on the beach in a Hello Kitty bikini.

The 20-year-old happily flaunted her tanned and toned figure in the two-piece during a recent visit to Malibu beach.

Perhaps the actress, who recently had her long blonde tresses cut into a stylish crop, has been taking fitness tips from her boxer boyfriend, Wladimir Klitschko

She has been dating the 34-year-old Ukrainian since late last year.

'I've never had an athlete as a boyfriend before, and it's an exciting experience,’ she said recently.

Heroes, the TV show which made Panettiere famous, was axed in March by the U.S. NBC network after a dramatic loss in viewers.

But creator Tim Kring is keen to bring the drama back for a mini-series in order to wrap up loose ends.

Meanwhile, the young actress has joined the cast of horror flick Scream 4, where she will star alongside Courteney Cox and Emma Roberts.

Goofs mar Palin's Reagan college tribute, legal fund appeal

Following in others' grand tradition of demonstrating gaps in knowledge while addressing a university, Sarah Palin told a crowd at a fundraiser at California State University in Stanislaus last weekend that Ronald Reagan, personal hero and inspiration, was a California college graduate. She told the cheering crowd: "This is Reagan country, and perhaps it was destiny that the man who went to California's Eureka College would become so woven within and interlinked to the Golden State."

There's just one problem here: Reagan went to Eureka College in Illinois from 1928 to 1932, the Alaska Dispatch reports. He didn't move to California until five years after his graduation. There's no Eureka College in California (though there's a town of Eureka that has a College of the Redwoods nearby).

Immediately after her speech, a live microphone caught voices in the press area trashing the former Alaska governor, Mediate reported. "The dumbness doesn’t just come from soundbites," one complained. The Fox affiliate owned the microphone but says their reporters did not make the comments.

Meanwhile, the Associated Press reports on a more serious recent mistake of Palin's political organization. Administrators for her legal defense fund accidentally sent out a rough draft of an email to thousands of supporters that falsely claimed she faced "millions of dollars" in legal fees because of "frivolous" ethics suits against her. The corrected version of the email said the fees numbered in the hundreds of thousands, not millions.

Critics say several more claims in the email were not true. The email said 26 of 27 ethics violations against Palin were dismissed outright, which is false: Three moved into the investigative phase. One inquiry resulted in a cash settlement; another found that ethics had been abridged but declined to recommend legal proceedings because the charge involved the dismissal of the head of the Alaska state trooper force, who was an at-will employee of the governor.

The email also alleged that the Democratic National Committee created a website whose goal is to keep Palin out of public office — a charge that the organization says is untrue.

Last week, the earlier incarnation of Palin's defense fund was ruled illegal because it used the word "official." The decision forced the fund's administrators to pay back the $400,000 in donations they raised, and to launch the newer version of the fund.

It's payback time.

Mel Gibson's ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva tells London's Daily Mail that the actor is not paying child support for their nine-month-old daughter.

The Russian musician claims she has been forced to "live on credit cards" and borrow money from friends to support baby Lucia.

"He is not paying me a penny. Nothing," she told the U.K. newspaper. "I was trying to keep things dignified and be respectful to the father of my daughter, but what he is doing is cruelty."

Gibson -- who is reportedly worth $900 million -- split from Grigorieva two months ago.

The actor parted ways with his wife of 28 years, Robyn, after he was photographed kissing the 40-year-old musician while vacationing in Costa Rica.

Despite originally telling the press their break-up was amicable, Grigorieva now says she dropped the "Lethal Weapon" star after they had been together for three years.

"He didn’t dump me, I left him," she told the Daily Mail. "I rescued my children and myself."

Last Monday, Grigorieva filed a restraining order against Gibson claiming he had been violent towards her in January. The judge reportedly issued an order prohibiting the 54-year-old actor from contacting his ex.

But the couple's legal battle soon appeared to turn into a case of tit for tat.

RadarOnline.com reported on Friday that Gibson had filed his own restraining order against Grigorieva.

His ex tells the Daily Mail that this is false.

"The truth will come out eventually," Grigorieva told the the newspaper. "There are custody issues. What is happening to me is not fair."

Besides Lucia, Gibson has seven older children with his ex-wife, Robyn.

Grigorieva also has a 13-year-old son with actor Timothy Dalton.
