Ruby Lin to star in Princess Pearl remake

Still remember the popular Taiwanese costume drama Princess Pearl which took the Asian region by storm more than a decade ago?
A 30-episode remake is now on the way. Details remain sketchy, but already the Internet is abuzz, with fans speculating who will fill the shoes of Vicky Zhao Wei and Ruby Lin as the princesses in the latest TV adaptation of Chiung Yao’s popular romance novel.
One thing is for sure: Lin, who played the sweet and gentle Zi Wei in the first and second seasons of the original show, has joined the cast.
She was not reprising her role. Instead, Lin is playing Xia Yu He, the beautiful mother of Zi Wei, who once had a bittersweet relationship with the emperor and ended up having her heart broken, when he left her to go back to the capital.

The 34-year-old actress said she agreed to accept the role out of her gratitude towards Qiung Yao.
Aired in 1998, the series soon became an hit, spawning off the second season and the third, turning Zhao, Lin as well as Fan Bingbing into household names.
However, the cast underwent a reshuffle when all major members except Zhou Jie dropped out of the project, with Chinese actresses Huang Yi and Ma Yili being groomed as the new princesses.
